This is why replacing the obvious component so often produces a repair that lasts a few weeks and then fails again in the same place.
Southwest Florida adds its own contributions. Humidity and salt air corrode terminations, especially at exterior devices, lanai circuits, and pool equipment. Repeated summer surge activity degrades components gradually rather than destroying them outright. And a good portion of the housing stock here was built during eras with wiring practices that have since been improved on, including the aluminum branch circuit wiring common in homes built between roughly 1965 and 1973. Proper diagnosis accounts for all of it.
In practice that means a dead outlet is usually a failed connection rather than a failed device, and often at a point earlier in the circuit than the one you noticed. Flickering confined to a single fixture is typically local, while flickering across multiple rooms or dimming when a large appliance cycles points toward a loose neutral or a service level connection. A warm outlet, switch, or cover plate is the one symptom that should be treated as time sensitive rather than scheduled at your convenience, because warmth means resistance and resistance inside a closed box generates heat. And a circuit that trips under the same use it has always handled has either developed a fault or quietly gained load over the years, neither of which is corrected by installing a larger breaker.

Fort Myers
Fort Myers has the broadest span of construction eras in our territory, and the repair work reflects it. In homes built between the mid 1960s and early 1970s we regularly find aluminum branch circuit wiring, which requires proper remediation at terminations rather than ordinary device replacement. Elsewhere in the city, the most common repairs are failed back stabbed device connections and circuits that quietly accumulated load over decades of additions and renovations.
Estero
Estero repairs are mostly newer construction issues. The wiring itself is generally sound, so faults tend to originate at devices, at exterior and lanai circuits, and at additions made after the original build. Corrosion drives most Sanibel repairs. Salt air reaches terminations at exterior devices, fixtures, meter enclosures, and even interior boxes on homes near the water, and corroded connections produce exactly the symptoms homeowners describe as intermittent.
