When a Southwest Florida Home Needs Rewiring
Wiring does not usually fail all at once. It degrades at the terminations, at the points where conductors connect to devices, splices, and breakers, and those connections are where heat and resistance develop. A home with sound conductors can still have a dozen problem connections, and a home with compromised conductors can appear fine for years. Age alone is not the deciding factor. Condition, wiring method, and how much the home’s electrical demand has grown all matter more.
There are a few specific things we look for in this market. Homes built roughly between 1965 and 1973 may have aluminum branch circuit wiring, which is manageable with proper remediation but genuinely problematic when ignored. Older homes frequently have ungrounded two wire circuits, which limits what you can safely plug into them. And across all eras we find renovation wiring done outside of code, with splices buried in walls and circuits extended well past what they were designed to carry. Any of those is worth understanding before you plan a remodel.
The findings that lead us to recommend rewiring are reasonably consistent. Aluminum branch circuit wiring, common in homes here from the late 1960s and early 1970s, expands and contracts differently than copper and loosens terminations over time, though proper remediation at the connections is frequently sufficient. Two wire ungrounded circuits cannot safely serve modern electronics or accept a standard three prong outlet without correction, and they turn up regularly in pre 1965 homes. Faults appearing across different areas of the home over a short period usually indicate a systemic condition rather than coincidence. And undocumented renovation wiring, meaning splices outside accessible boxes and circuits extended well past their design, appears in nearly every home that has been worked on repeatedly across several decades.

From a single new circuit to a complete rewire, all wiring work is permitted, inspected, and installed to current code. On occupied homes we phase the work so you are not without power to essential areas overnight, and we plan runs to use existing access wherever possible so there is less to patch and repaint afterward. Whole Home Rewiring
A full rewire replaces the branch circuit wiring throughout the home and brings the system to current code, including grounded circuits, arc fault and ground fault protection, and proper device counts per room. We plan the work in phases where possible so the home stays livable during the project.
Aluminum Wiring Remediation
Where aluminum branch wiring is present, we remediate the terminations using approved connectors and devices rated for use with aluminum conductors. We inspect every accessible device and junction rather than treating a sample, because the risk lives at the connections.
New Dedicated Circuit Installation
Kitchens, laundry areas, garages, workshops, pool equipment, and car chargers all need circuits sized specifically for them. We run new dedicated circuits from the panel, confirm the service has capacity to support them, and address the panel first if it does not.Remodel and Addition Wiring
Renovation wiring is its own discipline, because you are integrating new work into an existing system whose history you did not write. We open, evaluate, and rewire what is affected, and we bring existing circuits in the work area up to current code as part of the project.
New Construction Rough In
New construction wiring has been our bread and butter since 1995. We handle the full rough in, from service and panel placement through branch circuits, device boxes, lighting layout, and low voltage provisions, coordinated with the builder’s schedule and inspected at each stage.
Damaged and Failed Wiring Repair
Conductors damaged by rodents, water intrusion, overheating, or prior renovation work get replaced rather than patched. We correct improper splices, relocate inaccessible junction boxes, and repair exterior and underground conductors damaged by weather or landscaping work.

Fort Myers
Fort Myers holds the largest concentration of homes old enough to need rewiring in our service area. In the pre 1960s stock near downtown and in the older McGregor corridor neighborhoods we regularly find ungrounded two wire circuits and original wiring that has been extended repeatedly over the decades. In the late 1960s and early 1970s neighborhoods, aluminum branch wiring is the finding that most often drives the conversation, and in most of those homes proper termination remediation resolves it without a full rewire.
Estero
Estero rewiring work is rare, and that is expected in a market built mostly after 1998. What we do here is additive: new dedicated circuits for pool and spa equipment, lanai and outdoor kitchen wiring, garage circuits for car charging, and rough in for room additions and lanai enclosures. Estero also gives us a steady volume of new construction rough in as buildout continues east of the interstate.
Bonita Springs
Bonita Springs is genuinely two markets for wiring purposes. The older homes near Old 41 and toward the beach produce whole home rewiring and aluminum remediation work. The newer communities to the east are almost entirely new circuit and remodel wiring, particularly for outdoor living spaces, which have become the most common addition in that part of our territory.
Naples
Naples wiring projects are usually large in scope and detailed in specification. Whole home renovations here frequently involve rewiring to support extensive lighting design, motorized shades, audio and network infrastructure, and multiple sub panels feeding detached structures. The coordination burden is higher than anywhere else we work, because the electrical rough in has to accommodate systems that other trades are specifying.
Sanibel Island
Sanibel wiring work is shaped heavily by Hurricane Ian. A significant portion of the island’s housing stock required wiring evaluation, partial rewiring, or full replacement of conductors affected by storm surge, and that work is ongoing. Beyond storm damage, elevated construction and salt air exposure make exterior and under home wiring runs a particular focus, since conduit, boxes, and conductors in those locations age faster than anything inside the envelope.
Captiva Island
Captiva projects come with logistics that inland projects do not. Access, material staging, and scheduling all require planning ahead, and we build that into how we quote and sequence island work. Most Captiva wiring projects we handle are renovation related, where an older island home is being brought up to current standards, and the exterior and elevated portions of the wiring almost always need more attention than the interior.
